Searching for the Reason

“I have told you these things so that in Me you may have peace. You will have suffering in this world. Be courageous! I have conquered the world.”

John 16:33 HCSB

“The Lord is near.  Don’t worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.  And the peace of God, which surpasses every thought, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”

Philippians 4:5b-7 HCSB

Why do we struggle in life? We experience everything from minor inconveniences and daily difficulties to life altering events.

In the last few months, I have upped my walking and movement goals as part of an effort to improve my health. This week, while climbing the stairs, I felt a pop in the back of my knee and had difficulty walking. After an ER visit, I’m limiting my activities and using a cane to reduce further injury while I await an MRI to check for a possible meniscus tear.

This waiting gives me extra time to sit and question the reason for the struggles in our lives. We long to know. Was it something we did? Was there a way we could have prevented it? What is the purpose?

I’m learning that what is more important than searching for the reason is seeking our Lord.

We can be doing the things we believe God is asking us to do and find that life changes.

In this life, we will have many difficulties, but the Lord has overcome them.

The truth is we may never know the answer. But we can lean on the One who does.

The Lord hurts for His children and is with us in these difficult times. It’s okay to question, but we may not find the answer. The way through these trials is to seek the Lord and rely on Him. As these circumstances become a part of our life story, we learn, grow, and change.

Instead of searching for the answer, let’s seek the Lord!

PRAYER: Dear Lord, Thank You for Your compassion and closeness in our lives. Help us to seek You at all times and especially when we don’t understand the struggles we are facing. You, Lord, have promised to never to leave us or forsake us. We need You now more than ever. In Christ’s name, Amen.

Journal: Write your questions to the Lord and ask Him to walk you through this season. How can you seek Him today?
