Preparing for Peace

“Do what you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, and the God of peace will be with you.”

Philippians 4:9 HCSB

“‘Though the mountains move and the hills shake, My love will not be removed from you and My covenant of peace will not be shaken,’ says your compassionate LORD.”

Isaiah 54:10 HCSB

At times, we must prepare for the things to come. We pray and create a plan, then work through the steps, to ensure we are ready.

During these past few weeks, I have spent time preparing for my knee surgery to repair a meniscus tear.

This involved shopping, organizing supplies, canceling plans, and scheduling appointments. It also allowed time for a few fun outings and opportunities to ask others for the help I’d need in advance.

I organized items into tubs and ready-to-use packages. The refrigerator and pantry are stocked with yummy prepared foods for me and my family to enjoy.

I washed the dishes while listening to piano hymns, with my mind focused on Him.

With God’s provision, I was prepared and ready for my surgery.

Now, while it’s time to recuperate, I’m at peace. I created a comfy place to recover, with a special chair, pillows, and blankets. I gathered a collection of books and other quiet activities to keep my mind busy while my body heals. And I can spend time with the Lord in prayer, thanking Him for His guidance and grace to bring me through preparation, surgery, and recovery.

He will do the same for you in every situation.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, thank You for Your loving protection and provision at all times. Thank You for teaching us how to prepare when possible and to rely on Your promise that “You will keep the mind that is dependent on You in perfect peace, for it is trusting in You” (Isaiah 26:3). In Christ’s name, Amen.

Journal: What do you need to prepare for? Ask the Lord for His guidance and peace.
