“I am the vine; you are the branches. The one who remains in Me and I in him produces much fruit, because you can do nothing without Me.”
John 15:5 HCSB
“If you keep My commands you will remain in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commands and remain in His love.”
John 15:10 HCSB
Do you remember a time when you felt especially close to the Lord? Were you spending quiet time with Him? Were you actively seeking His presence throughout your days? Was He answering your prayers? Were you doing what you felt called to do?
When we abide with Jesus, we dwell close to Him. We are consistently aware of His presence and spend time in fellowship with Him. We realize our dependence on Him and make it a priority to pray, study the Bible, and live our lives by following His call and example.
Knowing Jesus intimately allows us to live with the assurance that as His followers, we are saved by His grace. We live our lives with eternity in mind.
Abiding in Christ provides the peace and closeness of an old friend and a beloved guide who knows your whole life story, mistakes and all, and will see you through to the end.
It is through this relationship that we hold tight to the vine and grow to produce the mature fruits that He has created specifically for us.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, thank You for calling us into close relationship with You. You are the vine and we are the branches. Please help us to stay connected to You, so that we can bear fruit in Your name. Amen.
Journal: Read John 15:5-11. What does abiding in Jesus look like for you? What can you do today to move closer to Him?
