“Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you; I will help you; I will hold on to you with My righteous right hand.”
Isaiah 41:10 HCSB
As I sit in my special lift chair, I imagine God’s hands gently holding me.
We purchased this chair to help in my recovery from meniscus surgery. It adjusts into almost infinite positions, allowing for comfort and deep rest. It provides gentle support, no matter the stage of my recovery.
That’s how God holds us. He adjusts His grip perfectly to where we are—whether standing tall in faith or needing to lie back in His strength. Psalm 139:10 assures us of this saying, “even there Your hand will lead me; Your right hand will hold on to me.”
At times, life feels overwhelming. We push ourselves to keep going, forgetting we were never meant to carry our burdens alone. In those moments, God invites us to lean into Him and find rest. It’s not a weakness to rest in Him. It’s an act of trust.
Jesus tells us in Matthew 11:28, “Come to Me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Just as my chair adjusts to cradle me, so does our Father’s hand, lifting us up when we’re weak and supporting us when we need to stay strong.
Being in the palm of God’s hand is a safe place. No matter how stormy life gets, His hand will hold us steady.
Isaiah 49:16a reminds us, “Look, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands.” What a comfort to know that not only does He hold us, but He has our names written there!
Isaiah 40:31 promises us that “those who trust in the Lord will renew their strength; they will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not faint.” When you are weary, remember that God’s hand is like that special lift chair–adjusting to meet you wherever you are, and enabling recovery and healing. All you need to do is rest in His loving touch and trust in His perfect timing.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, thank You for holding us in the palms of Your hands. May we find comfort and rest in Your restorative power. In Christ’s name, Amen.
Journal: Find a quiet and comfortable spot to sit where you can envision the Lord holding you. Spend time in prayerful reflection.
