“The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger and rich in faithful love.”
Psalm 103:8 HCSB
“May you be strengthened with all power, according to His glorious might, for all endurance and patience, with joy giving thanks to the Father, who has enabled you to share in the saints’ inheritance in the light.”
Colossians 1:11-12 HCSB
They say patience is a virtue, but it has never been my strong suit.
Knowing that patience is a fruit of the Spirit, I strive to grow in that area. I ask the Lord for His timing and wait to hear His response.
Yet, I’m often hurried and anxious to do what is needed to get things done. I wonder why others tend to take so long.
Like wine and old friendships grow sweeter with age, patience helps us to live with kindness and grace. We’re more able to live in the moment, instead of worrying about the past or rushing ahead to the future.
We can all become more patient by asking the Lord for His help. His timing is perfect and He has a plan for each of our lives. Even when things seem delayed, He’s working behind the scenes. When we trust that He’s in control of every situation, we’re more able to wait in faith.
Our patience can continue to grow in the midst of trials. God often uses these difficulties to refine us. When we focus on growing closer to Him in these times, we can be encouraged by remembering all of the past situations He has brought us through.
Let’s aim to become more patient and see what the fruit of this spirit brings into our lives and the lives of those we touch.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, thank You for your patience with us, even when we struggle to be patient. You are faithful to show us the way in every situation. Please help us to align our hearts with Your will and help us to trust and hope in You as we wait for Your timing. In Christ’s name, Amen.
