Even Our Hairs

“But even the hairs of your head are all numbered.”

Matthew 10:30 ESV

“Even to your old age I will be the same, and even to your graying years I will carry you! I have done it, and I will bear you; and I will carry you and I will save you.”

Isaiah 46:4 NASB

As my stylist, Cheryl, examined my hair before beginning to cut, she lingered at least half a minute looking closely at the top of my head. She held a strand or two between her fingers.

I asked, “Do you see some gray hairs?” At 55, I have strands scattered throughout, both long and wavy and short that stick out straight.

She replied, “No! You have red hairs!

“Well, my sister has red hair.”

“You have one, two, three of them!

My hair is usually considered brown, but can be called auburn with the summer sun.

When I was very young, before a road trip to visit my great grandma, Dad let his sideburns grow out. His head hair is brown, but his sideburns are red. He wanted to proudly prove that my baby sister was indeed his!

Even when we can’t see our hairs, God knows they’re there. He counts them—each one. He knows their color and when we lose even just one.

He loves each of us intimately and forever. From baby fuzz to gray hair and even baldness, His steadfast love remains.

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank You for loving us more than anyone else ever could! We trust in the promises of Lamentations 3:22-23, “Because of the LORD’s faithful love we do not perish, for His mercies never end. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness!” In Christ’s name, Amen.

Journal: Spend some time thanking the Lord for making you as you are. He knit you together in His loving providence and made you uniquely special.
