“But concerning that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only.”
Matthew 24:36 ESV
“But be alert at all times, praying that you may have strength to escape all these things that are going to take place and to stand before the Son of Man.”
Luke 21:36 HSCB
“Then we who are still alive will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air and so we will always be with the Lord.”
1 Thessalonians 4:17 HCSB
When having a particularly difficult day, I’m known to break into song with the chorus of the R.E.M. song, “It’s the End of the World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)” (1987).
If you’re reading this, the end of the world hasn’t happened yet! And according to Matthew 24:36, no one knows when it will except the Father.
The nationaltoday.com holiday calendar commemorates “End of the World Day” each year on May 21st as the day when Harold Camping predicted the rapture would occur in 2011. Many others have also made predictions.
My church is currently studying the book of Revelation. It’s heavy and deep with many varying opinions on when and how it will happen. But we know that what is written will happen and each day brings us closer to the appointed time.
For those who believe in the pre-tribulation rapture, we will be called to heaven before the 7 years of severe turmoil begin on earth. Yet, we will all know others who are left behind.
Whether the rapture occurs before or after the tribulation, we who have given our hearts to Christ can be assured that we will endure with His help until our final day on earth is over.
“But know this: Difficult times will come in the last days.” (2 Timothy 3:1 HCSB)
“I feel fine” knowing where I’m going and knowing that no matter what problems we endure on earth, we will join Jesus in heaven one day. Until that time, let us live fully committed to Him and share what we know to bring others closer to Him. We can’t force others to believe, but we can live by example and help show them the way.
“This good news of the kingdom will be proclaimed in all the world as a testimony to all nations. And then the end will come.” (Matthew 24:14 HCSB)
“The one who reads this is blessed, and those who hear the words of this prophecy and keep what is written in it are blessed, because the time is near!” (Revelation 1:3 HCSB)
The final verse of Bible, Revelation 22:21 ESV, says, “The grace of our Lord Jesus be with you. Amen.”
Prayer: Dear Lord, thank You that because of Your promise, “…we wait for the new heavens and a new earth, where righteousness will dwell” (2 Peter 3:13b HCSB). Help us to be diligent in the work You have called us to do and to share this Good News with those we meet. Please help us to live full of purpose and to be ready when He comes. In Christ’s name, Amen.
Journal: How would you live today differently if you knew the end of the world was coming soon? Who would you spend time with as you prepare?
