The Goodness of God

“God saw all that He had made, and it was very good.”

Genesis 1:31a HCSB

“Every living creature will be food for you; as I gave the green plants, I have given you everything.”

Genesis 9:3 HCSB

“If the Lord is pleased with us, He will bring us into this land, a land flowing with milk and honey, and give it to us.”

Numbers 14:8 HCSB

When I returned to the urgent care to have my stitches removed, the nurse practitioner prescribed a medical grade honey to aid in the continued healing of my hand. Somehow, the pollen is removed and a thickener is added which allows it to be squeezed out of a tube like toothpaste.

I’ve been using first aid lotions and creams. No one mentioned this special honey was available!

The Lord has created a wonderful abundance for us here on earth. He is a Loving Father Who has provided us with everything we need while we’re here.

At times, we get so caught up in the things of the world, that we don’t notice all He has done or the beauty of all He has given. We may begin to crave more man-made things and overlook the bounty of blessings from the Lord.

There are many items that humans have created to make our lives easier, like comfy beds, electricity, and hospitals with doctors trained to render aide. But there are also over processed and overused items that can keep us from living our healthiest and best lives. We were given these lives to learn to love and follow the Lord. Our bodies and our time here are gifts from Him that we need to steward well.

In Daniel 1:8-16, we learn how Daniel and his friends followed the Lord’s call for them to eat a diet different from that of the King. Daniel received favor from the guard to try it for a short time. “At the end of 10 days they looked better and healthier than all the young men who were eating the king’s food” (v15). So, the guard let them continue to eat the vegetables.

We’re not all called to eat a specific diet and we can vary our choices from day to day. The Lord is not out to punish us for making the less healthy choices, but our bodies will respond to both the positive and negative choices we make.

Fresh air and sunshine are better than hours on end in front of the computer or TV. Fruit is nutritionally healthier than candy. Veggies are better than chips. And medical grade honey may be better for some wound care than another cream or ointment.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, thank You for Your goodness! You surround us with a wonderful bounty! Yet we get distracted by the things of this world and miss many opportunities to focus on the gifts You have given us. When we remember to lean into what You provide we will find more peace, health, and joy. In Christ’s name, Amen.
