Hope for Today

“So we do not focus on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.”

2 Corinthians 4:18 HCSB

“Because of the Lord’s faithful love we do not perish, for His mercies never end. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness!”

Lamentations 3:22-23 HCSB

Some days, it’s hard to find hope. We wake up to problems or tough challenges that don’t seem to be improving. Stressors mount and life keeps moving. We can barely get by, let alone keep up.

In these times, we can step back for a little while. We can close our eyes or cry and just shut out the world.

Then, when we’re ready, we can open our eyes to the world again. What do you see around you? What can you hear? What can you touch or smell? Ground yourself in this space, in this moment. Let time stand still.

Right now, we’re in the fall season. The leaves are beautiful colors and the air is crisp. But the days are shorter and the nights seem extra long. The cold and snowy days are on their way.

I love this season, but know that the shorter daylight hours can lead to Seasonal Affective Disorder for some. I’m not sure that I would qualify as a clinical sufferer, but I know this adjustment is difficult for me. I long for more time in the sun, for both its warmth and light.

Yet, our true hope doesn’t come from perfect circumstances or a brightly lit sky. It comes from knowing the Lord and surrounding ourselves with His light no matter the season.

Though we cannot see Him physically, we can focus on our knowledge of His presence, His help, and His loving light. We can study His Word and search for His gifts in each day.

It’s because His loving mercies are new every morning that we will live to fight another day. And it is by His grace that we will live forever in eternity with Him, where there is no darkness.

Friends, these difficult times won’t last forever, and our Lord will see us through. Don’t give up! Be patient with yourself. Remember better days and the times you’ve made it through before. And reach out to the Lord and others you trust to help you find the hope you need for today. I’m praying for you!

PRAYER: Dear Lord, thank You for each new day You provide. At times, we struggle to see the hope in the day. Our eyes are darkened by our struggles and stressors, and we can’t see the light. But You, Lord, are our hope. We can count on You. In Christ’s name, Amen.

Journal: How much hope do you have today? Ask the Lord for His help if you’re struggling. Share some hope with others if you have some to spare.
