I’m known by some as the “Salad Lady”. It started when my family began attending a home Bible study group. One week, I brought all the fixings for a salad bar and it was a big hit! I appreciate that it doesn’t require cooking and that everyone can choose whatever toppings they’d like.
This requires regular trips to the deli counter. Along with all the veggies, I take diced meat to top the salads–though some of the children enjoy the cubes on their own.
I check in at the counter and order the cheese and meats for weekly sandwiches as well as a few thin slabs for dicing.
The counter is sometimes crowded with customers waiting to place their orders. Yet the kind lady behind the counter patiently smiles while she gathers the details for each item she will prepare.
She gets to know her regular customers by asking questions and trading stories. She notices when someone has been away for some time. And she lets her customers know she’ll be praying for them.
So simple and yet so profound!
What a blessing it has been to get to know Amy! I once took a photo showing a meal and salad bar toppings so she could see her work in action. Her efforts reach far beyond the counter as they nourish hungry bellies and help to satisfy souls. I will miss her as she’s moving away. But I know she will continue to bless others no matter where she goes!
We all have gifts to share. But the best part is when we show others how much we care!
PRAYER: Dear Lord, thank You for those people who come into our lives and bless us with their gifts of kindness in action. Thank You for those who share their faith and willingness to pray. Their light and good works lead us back to You. In Christ’s name, Amen.
