“But Mary was treasuring up all these things in her heart and meditating on them.”
Luke 2:19 HCSB
“I will remember the Lord’s works; yes, I will remember Your ancient wonders.”
Psalm 77:11 HCSB
Christmas traditions are often strongly held in families. We remember the special times of our youth, the simpler years when we were starting out, and the ups and downs throughout our lives.
Certain traditions, gifts, foods, and gatherings have been repeatedly included over the years. Some of these are highly enjoyed and others are done out of habit.
As time goes by, we may need to make adjustments. Current needs in our lives and schedules may require changes to the times and the ways we celebrate.
Yet, the reason for the season never changes. Jesus came as a baby and grew to be our Savior. Whatever celebrations or stresses, praises or sorrows, you may be experiencing, the Lord is still your Savior and is close by.
It’s okay to remember the times of old, and still design this Christmas season differently. You can skip an activity or add in something unique that better fits you and those you are with. Know that a simple, quiet, and reflective Christmas is just as valuable as a season full of activities and travel.
Give yourself the gift of peace in His presence this Christmas, and create opportunities to both reflect on years past and honor this season of your life as well.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, thank You for Christmas and the reminder of Your eternal gift of Jesus and His life, death, and resurrection for us! Some holiday seasons are difficult. Please help us to find ways we can change our celebrations and still honor You. Thank You for the memories of past years and the ability to adjust and create new traditions. In Christ’s name, Amen.
