Seeing Clearly

“For I will pour water on the thirsty land and streams on the dry ground; I will pour out My Spirit on your descendants and My blessing on your offspring. They will sprout among the grass like poplars by flowing streams.”

Isaiah 44:3-4 HCSB

“I will give you rain at the right time, and the land will yield its produce, and the trees of the field will bear their fruit.”

Leviticus 26:4 HCSB

When my son was young, he would sing the beginning of Johnny Nash’s 1972 song: “I can see clearly now. The rain is gone.” He’d then act like he bumped into something and shout, “Oops! I didn’t see that!”

How many times does that happen to us? We’re going along and think we know where we’re headed. And all of a sudden we bump into something we didn’t see coming.

With prayer and planning, we move through life hoping that we’re in the right place doing what we’re called to do. We think we have the right beliefs and understand the situations around us.

But sometimes we lose our ability to see clearly what’s ahead, like on a rainy day full of dark clouds and giant raindrops. Our confidence wanes and our minds fill with questions.

In these times, it’s important to remember Who makes the rain. The same Lord that is always with us created it to clean and nourish the earth and to provide water for the living. Although rain can sometimes seem unwelcome, He uses it to provide us with sustenance and blessings.

When we remember our Lord is in charge and has a purpose in all that He does, we will realize we can trust Him—even in a rainy season. In fact, we often seek Him more in our struggles. Some things may require us to change, but He will help us even then.

Even in the rain, the Lord sees clearly. He will continue to guide, protect, and redirect us when necessary. And He will help us see the fruit and other blessings at the appointed time.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, thank You for both the sun and the rain in our lives. Please help us to trust in Your plans at all times and draw closer to You when we can’t see clearly. In Christ’s name, Amen.
