Car Wash

“I will lead the blind by a way they did not know; I will guide them on paths they have not known. I will turn darkness to light in front of them and rough places into level ground. This is what I will do for them, and I will not forsake them.”

Isaiah 42:16 HCSB

After a long road trip including some bumper-to-bumper traffic, my windshield was dirty and my patience was thin. About 5 miles from my destination, I saw some enthusiastic people waving hand-painted signs: “Car Wash $10.”

I quickly decided to leave my stopped spot on the road and follow their hand motions to pull into a church parking lot.

The cashier explained the earnings would help the children continue in their sports activities.

Most of them were young elementary school students, with a few older people helping out. They giggled with enthusiasm and went straight to work.

After a few minutes, my car was clean, my windshield was clear, and my spirit was renewed!

As a bonus, my drive time was reduced since the traffic jam had cleared!

At times, our lives become covered with dirt from the road of life. We can’t see clearly where we are going and our burdens seem extra heavy. We are slowed down by the business around us, and we become weary from our struggles.

In those times, we can take a break to allow us time to clear off some of the dirt and release the stressors. The Lord is always available to help us on our journeys. He will not forsake us!

PRAYER: Dear Lord, thank You for the opportunities You place in our lives to help us cope with life’s difficulties. We are blessed by Your promise to provide light in the darkness and help when the ground is rough. In Christ’s name, Amen.

Journal: Where do you need God’s help to lighten your load and remove the dirt from the road of life?

  1. Short and sweet! I used to work at a carwash so this caught my attention! I also helped our student ministry wash cars last year to go on a house build trip to Mexico. You shared so many life applications, though, from being able to change plans and navigate a different path. I love that it renewed your spirit and the traffic died down for you too! Sometimes we just want to keep trucking along the same path, but God has something better!
