Timely Traditions

“Imitate me, as I also imitate Christ. Now I praise you because you always remember me and keep the traditions just as I delivered them to you.”

1 Corinthians 11:1-2 HCSB

“There is an occasion for everything,
and a time for every activity under heaven:”

Ecclesiastes 3:1 HCSB

We’re heading into the busy holiday season with a variety of gatherings and traditions. These may include taking trips, displaying decorations, preparing unique foods, visiting people who are near or far, and even wearing special clothing.

Though this season brings wonderful feelings for many, it can be overwhelming to others. And those who are going through difficult times of transition may be looking for new ways to honor their traditions.

No matter what we choose to do, we are to honor the Lord. Let’s keep Him close to our hearts and in our discussions with others. Lead with kindness and patience. And remember that modifying or recreating traditions can be a blessing as our lives and circumstances change.

Let’s spend our time loving on those around us without becoming burdened by the pressure to get it all done or fit everything in. Simpler may be better. Space and time can be gifts.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, Thank You for the traditions we have in our lives. Help us to view those around us with loving hearts, being thankful for all we have been given. Please help us to honor You over all. In Christ’s name, Amen.

  1. Becky, I appreciate this so much! As much as we love our traditions, sometimes we do need to pivot to honor them in a different way. As we add in-laws and significant others, it is a sign of love and respect to explore their traditions and begin to intermingle them with ours.
