“Teach a youth about the way he should go;
Proverbs 22:6 HCSB
even when he is old he will not depart from it.”
“Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep.”
Romans 12:15 HCSB
Mother’s Day is filled with mixed emotions. Some are able to celebrate with their mothers and children. Some have lost their mothers, either physically or emotionally. Others have experienced the tragic loss of a child.
The Lord created us with love to share, and the role of a mother is the greatest example of love on earth.
Those blessed to be unconditionally loved by their mothers are protected from harm, carefully nurtured, provided with lessons on doing life well, and raised knowing the love of our heavenly Father and the forgiveness of our Savior, Jesus.
Others have gone through life without their mothers or with one who wasn’t able to give them the love and guidance they needed, or even one who caused harm. The sense of loss is very real as they struggle to navigate in this world.
Whatever we are going through in life, we can trust in the Lord and lean on Him for strength and direction. Acknowledge your hopes and dreams, worries, and struggles. He will love you with open arms. He will never leave or forsake you (Deuteronomy 31:6). You can fully trust in Him.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, thank You for Your unconditional love, forgiveness, guidance, and protection. Thank You for our mothers and others who have shared these gifts with us. We praise You for these special people in our lives.
Lord, we ask for Your comforting closeness to surround those women today who are missing their mothers or children, and for those who are longing to be mothers themselves. We need Your presence. In Christ’s name, Amen.
Journal: Take time to honor and remember those who have mothered you and supported you on your journey. Rejoice with those who celebrate and acknowledge those who are going through a difficult season. Write your thoughts and prayers here.
