His Voice Above the Noise

“For I am persuaded that not even death or life, angels or rulers, things present or things to come, hostile powers, height or depth, or any other created thing will have the power to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord!”

Romans 8:38-39 HCSB

When we can hear the Lord’s voice above the noise of this world, we can find peace.  “I have told you these things so that in Me you may have peace. You will have suffering in this world. Be courageous! I have conquered the world” (John 16:33).

There are times in our lives when it is hard to know if we are hearing from the Lord. Sometimes it’s caused by busyness and other things that keep our minds and hearts too busy to recognize His still, small voice.

Other times, we turn away or act on our own accord because we’re not sure we want to do it His way.

But most of the time, we’re somewhere in between…trying to fulfill each day’s commitments in the best way we can on our own. Time moves fast, and we’re attempting to keep up. Yet this can cause us to work harder. Not faster or better.

When we take the time to ask the Lord, keep moving along in life the best we can, but gently staying open and aware of His presence, we’ll begin to recognize the “thoughts” and “ideas” that come from Him. We will have a sense of peace, a simple “knowing” that this is the next logical step.

We don’t move blindly or with great force. Instead, we take the next right step, talking with Him and remaining focused on His grace.

We can start by writing out our prayers and revisiting them daily, adding thoughts and ideas as they come. We can continue to clarify what is truly coming from Him through our Scripture study, continued prayer, and wise Christian counsel.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, thank You for Your loving guidance that is available to each of us. Please help us to recognize Your voice above the noise of this world and to fully follow You. In Christ’s name, Amen.
