Seasons of Change

“There is an occasion for everything, and a time for every activity under heaven:”

Ecclesiastes 3:1 HCSB

“So we must not get tired of doing good, for we will reap at the proper time if we don’t give up.”

Galatians 6:9 HCSB

Most of us in the United States set our clocks back this past weekend to standard time, giving more daylight for children to get on the school bus in the morning. But this time shift can also disrupt both our sleep and daily routines. Let’s choose to be patient and kind with ourselves and others as we adapt.

Our daily lives and schedules will also change over time. It’s important that we allow ourselves grace as we adjust.

Whether these changes stem from choice or necessity, they can feel overwhelming to begin. We may question ourselves about what we should do and whether we are even capable of trying something new. And even when we have a direction to go, we may fear we’re not ready to move forward.

Here are some ways to get started:

  1. Pray, asking the Lord to help you create a vision. Consider your relationships, current responsibilities, personal health and wellness, and the gifts the Lord has given you. Identify how you’d like your life to look and feel in this coming season.
  2. Create a realistic action plan. Choose one area to focus on, establish achievable goals, and identify the first three steps you can take.
  3. Build consistency rather than chasing perfection. Small, intentional actions repeated over time will create a positive transformation. Give yourself grace when things don’t go as planned.
  4. Continue the process with additional changes as needed, while continuing to spend time with the Lord.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, as life’s seasons change, we are called to different things. We are thankful that You remain the same and will continue to guide us along these new paths. Please help us to focus on what You have for us each day. May we be grateful, loving, patient, and kind with ourselves and one another as we adjust to the changes each season brings. In Christ’s name, Amen.
