Time in Nature

“The earth and everything in it,
the world and its inhabitants,
belong to the Lord;”

Psalm 24:1 HCSB

“Our Lord and God,
You are worthy to receive
glory and honor and power,
because You have created all things,
and because of Your will
they exist and were created.”

Revelation 4:11 HCSB

One of the best places we can go when we feel distanced from God is outside in nature. Taking time to notice the Lord’s creations, seeing the variety of plants, animals, birds, and insects reminds us of what an amazingly powerful God He is! We can sense His creativity through the variety of colors and textures that surround us. We hear the sounds of water lapping, birds chirping, and shuffling leaves in the blowing wind. We can see pictures in the clouds moving high in the sky.

The scents and shapes of trees and flowers.
Rocky cliffs and smooth sand.
Wildlife and fish.
The Lord made them all!

How magnificent is His creative genius, to build a world with so much uniqueness. Each of the parts designed to serve its own purpose.

Think of how the moon affects the tides, and reflects the sun’s light in the night sky. The sun shines to heat our days, perfectly placed to give light, while providing temperatures that protect life.

We can ground ourselves in the rhythms of life. The beating of our hearts, walking step by step, sleeping and waking, being active and resting, and the changing seasons are all reminders of His creative plan.

God’s attention to detail shows in how He designed all things to work together. He gave us these creations to enjoy and learn from. We are His creations, too! Spend some time in nature reconnecting with the Lord.

PRAYER: Dear Lord,
I long to experience a deeper connection with You. Please help me to sense Your presence through all of Your amazing creations
. May I draw closer to You every day.
In Christ’s name, Amen.

Journal: What experiences have deepened your relationship with the Lord? Where could you go this week to spend some time with Him in nature?
