MOMdays

“Then He replied, ‘My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.’”

Exodus 33:14

“Therefore, whether we are at home or away, we make it our aim to be pleasing to Him.”

2 Corinthians 5:9

Mondays are MOMdays for me this season. Life is busy and overwhelming at times. There are extra responsibilities and activities that I must complete. There are decisions to make. It can become too much. My thinking isn’t clear with all of the chaos. I find it difficult to turn off my brain or switch it to a more peaceful channel.

So, this is my second MOMday! I’m sitting in a private room at my local library writing these words to share with you. At this time, I’ve finished my early morning job for the day. My family is preparing their own breakfast, and they’ll be eating leftovers for lunch. Since I’m away from home, the dishes and laundry will wait. And I’m giving myself time off making any tough decisions. I’m only doing what I enjoy for these two hours. Then I’ll go home—a little more relaxed and refreshed. I’ll be better able to tackle the things that come. My mind will be better able to focus and shift gears.

There are plenty of other days in the week to make the tough decisions and do the hard work. This special time and space allows me to go back to my life with a renewed sense of purpose and a peaceful energy.

Maybe you could use a day or even just a few hours for yourself. What gives you energy and renews your spirit? Is it reading, crafting, or spending time in nature? Maybe you enjoy listening to music while taking a walk. It could be a special snack or drink to slowly savor. It may even be a nap that will refresh you best.

The Lord designed us with unique gifts and desires. He created us with the need to take time away to renew our minds and spirits. It is not neglecting our responsibilities to slip away for some time. When we return, we are better able to manage our lives and support others as well.

Prayer: Dear Lord,
Thank You for designing us with the desire to take time for ourselves to do those things that we love. Please help us to learn to take some time, without guilt, so that we can return refreshed and ready to give our best to You and others.
In Christ’s name, Amen.

Journal: Plan a perfect YOUday. What would you do? How long would work best for you? Choose a time on the calendar where you can make it happen!
