“For it was You who created my inward parts; You knit me together in my mother’s womb. I will praise You because I have been remarkably and wonderfully made. Your works are wonderful, and I know this very well. My bones were not hidden from You when I was made in secret, when I was formed in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw me when I was formless; all my days were written in Your book and planned before a single one of them began.”
Psalm 139:13-16
My grandpa would say, “If we knew how many things could go wrong with these old cars, we would probably be afraid to drive at all.” It’s amazing that with all the working parts in our vehicles, when we turn the key, or push the button, they start. How much more amazing is God’s loving creation of us!
There is no one else exactly like you! Even identical twins have unique personality traits. My grandma had an identical twin sister. They looked and sounded alike, so others would be confused as to who was who. They even got in trouble in school for cheating because they put the same answers on their tests, even though they sat across the room from each other! And they loved to dress alike. When they knew they would be spending the day together, they would call each other up and discuss the outfit. If one of them showed up wearing the wrong flowered blouse or pearl earrings, they would get a little fussy with each other before they could do whatever they had planned!
As adults, they married different husbands and raised unique children. They even lived in different states for a time. These experiences and the people they met helped to shape their individuality.
The Lord has designed each of us to be unique. We have different likes, personalities, skills, experiences, friends, and family that all help make us who God planned for us to be. Your hair and eye color, smile, likes and dislikes, mannerisms, and special talents were given to you as gifts from the Lord. Your life circumstances help to shape who you are becoming and affect the purpose you have in this world.
God created us uniquely so that we can complement those around us. We are one body in Christ, but each of us has a special part that only we can fulfill.
Even those things about ourselves we wish could be changed help to make us suited for the job that is ours to fill as part of His plan. Thank the Lord for your uniqueness, quirks and all. Ask Him for guidance on how you can use your life to bring Him glory.
PRAYER: Dear Lord,
You have created us to be unique individuals who have a special place and purpose in this world for Your glory. You have a plan for our lives. Please help us to see ourselves as You see us and to accept our weaknesses along with our strengths. Help us to trust that You can use us just as we are.
In Christ’s Name, Amen.
