“Let the favor of the Lord our God be on us;
Psalm 90:17
establish for us the work of our hands—
establish the work of our hands!”
“Whatever you do, do it enthusiastically, as something done for the Lord and not for men,”
Colossians 3:23
Homemade items are the best! They’re full of thought and love, skill and time. Many skills are passed down from generation to generation. Quilters and seamstresses, bakers and cooks, carpenters, writers and artists alike create what they lovingly imagine and share it with us. Prayers may be said for the recipients.
Though many things can be reproduced in bigger batches in factories, the freshness and uniqueness of these handmade items make them extra special. It’s often those surprise homemade items that we remember and treasure. They taste sweeter, they’re more lovely, and they hold a higher value for us than something that is mass produced.
Homemade items keep our hands busy and our hearts full as we prepare something to share. It’s a labor of love that doesn’t always cost of lot of money. Vegetables from the garden can become a yummy salsa or salad. Flowers picked from a field will make a beautiful bouquet. Fresh bread, a batch of cookies, or candy also make great gifts! These gifts are a blessing, but the love behind them is what makes them extra special!
Prayer:
Dear Lord, thank You for helping us to use our provisions and creativity to make unique gifts to share with those around us. May these homemade gifts be blessings, sharing your love with others. In Christ’s name, Amen.
