The Reason

“Therefore, be imitators of God, as dearly loved children. And walk in love, as the Messiah also loved us and gave Himself for us, a sacrificial and fragrant offering to God.”

Ephesians 5:1-2

“Death, where is your victory?
Death, where is your sting?
Now the sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ!”

1 Corinthians 15:55-57

My favorite Christmas tree ornament was given to me by my Sunday school teacher many years ago. It was made with half an open walnut shell, a small cotton ball, and a plastic baby covered by a piece of blue felt. There’s a sprinkling of silver glitter on the border and a ribbon to hang it on the tree.

This ornament reminds me of the true meaning of Christmas. Many say “Jesus is the reason for the season.” But Jesus is the reason for all of our hope, for the present and the future. There is a peace that comes from knowing baby Jesus grew up, giving us the example for how to live. Through His death and resurrection we have joy in knowing that although we will leave this life, we will enter into eternal life with Him. Jesus is our reason.

PRAYER:
Dear Father,
Thank you for Jesus, the baby who came to save the world. Thank you for His light, and the hope of salvation and eternity with You. Help us to see that humble beginnings can become powerfully life-changing!
In Christ’s name, Amen.

Journal: What is your favorite Christmas ornament? How do you celebrate the true meaning of Christmas? How can you honor Him throughout the coming days?
