Peace in Suffering

“But as it is written: What eye did not see and ear did not hear, and what never entered the human mind— God prepared this for those who love Him.

1 Corinthians 2:9 HCSB

Praise the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and the God of all comfort.

2 Corinthians 1:3 HCSB

This world has many difficulties. We all find ourselves struggling at times just to get through our days.

In John 16:33 (HCSB), Jesus says,“I have told you these things so that in Me you may have peace. You will have suffering in this world. Be courageous! I have conquered the world.”

Some people suffer because of health issues or the loss of a loved one. Others suffer when they aren’t treated well due to discrimination, restriction of worship, or war that takes away their freedom, property, or even their lives.

When the hard times come, it’s easy to struggle with stress, wondering what we can do and crying out to the Lord in desperation. He hears our cries. Ask for help when you’re in a difficult situation. He will provide comfort, peace, and direction to those who reach out to Him.

We can also be overwhelmed with guilt when we see others struggling, wanting to take away their pain. Talk to the Lord. Ask Him for ways that you can bless others.

Many people feel a sense of peace in their struggles just knowing others are praying for them. You can look for additional ways to help, such as gifts of supplies, food, money, or emotional support.

While we’re in this world, we will have struggles. But we can find an inner peace through knowing where we’re headed when this life is over—to an eternity with our Heavenly Father.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, we pray as it’s written in Psalm 10:17-18 HCSB), “Lord, You have heard the desire of the humble; You will strengthen their hearts. You will listen carefully, doing justice for the fatherless and the oppressed so that men of the earth may terrify them no more.” And also in Psalm 119:50 (HCSB), “This is my comfort in my affliction: Your promise has given me life.Thank You for conquering the world and for all of the incomprehensible gifts that You have prepared for those who love You. We long to stay close to You. In Christ’s Name, Amen.

Journal: Spend time in prayer asking the Lord for His guidance and peace for those who are suffering.
