Moving On

“I will instruct you and show you the way to go;

For the last nine months, my husband and I have been working on his parents’ estates and preparing to sell the family home. Yesterday, the house went on the market, and today was the open house.

It has been a bittersweet process. We know his parents are in their heavenly home and no longer need this earthly dwelling. Yet, we will experience another goodbye.

Eric grew up in this home, making memories with family and friends.
Taco and pizza nights on newspaper blankets watching TV.
Holiday and birthday celebrations.
I spent time there getting to know my future in-laws.

Now, the house sits empty. We’ve kept the irreplaceable photos and documents, along with some cherished family Bibles, and a few other possessions. But the remainder of items have been sold or donated. The cleanup work is done.

Though we’ll always have memories of this home, we are praying for the next family who will begin making a life there. They will keep some of the home’s old character while adding updates and personal touches to make the home uniquely theirs. They’ll enjoy the spacious views from the back windows and snuggle together in the living room for movies and popcorn. They’ll take walks and meet the neighbors.

We hope that someday we’ll be invited in to see how the home has changed and meet the new owners. But for now, we pray for them and move on.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, Thank You for being with us during times of change. Thank You for loving us and helping us to navigate times of hope and loss. Please help us see the beauty that the future holds. Though things change, You do not! Your love is with us through it all! Please bless those that follow behind us; give them peace and love as they navigate a new beginning. Help us to remember the past blessings while looking towards the future to find what You have for us there. In Christ’s name, Amen.
