“For by Wisdom your days will be many,
Proverbs 9:11 HCSB
and years will be added to your life.”
“Teach us to number our days carefully
Psalm 90:12 HCSB
so that we may develop wisdom in our hearts.”
Just over a year ago, I believed I was going to be two years older than I actually would be. I was SURE I was turning 53.
My mom worked hard to convince me that I was turning 51. “You have two extra years!” she insisted. I knew she wouldn’t lie, yet despite the math I didn’t fully accept what she said.
I was in some kind of fog — going through the motions of each day, but not really living with joy or anticipation.
Once convinced that I was “only 50,” I realized I had enough time to publish my first book before I hit 51! I was able to push through with a renewed energy and hope that I’d been missing.
My birthday card read:
Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
You thought you’d be 53,
But you were off by two!
My 51st year was spent with a willingness to push harder and do more. We published two more books and worked diligently to straighten up my in-laws’ estate.
This week, I turned 52 and I am so excited to see what my 2nd bonus year will hold!
Realizing you have been given the gift of time is an amazing blessing! For some it comes after, or even during, a health crisis. Time may be limited, but the days are treasured with a fervent love and gratitude not seen in the past.
It may come with the recovery from an addiction, trauma, or other difficult life situation. This new freedom enables you to see all of the possibilities and embrace the beauty of each moment.
All of us have the opportunity to look at each day, week, month, and year with a sense of wonder and awe. They are gifts from the Lord.
Since none of us is promised tomorrow here on earth, let’s celebrate each day we’ve been given. Let’s look forward with joy as we acknowledge the abundance of unnumbered days we will have when we get to Heaven! What a blessing that will be!
PRAYER: Dear Lord, Thank You for the gift of each new day! Help us to see the treasures and blessings that come as we travel through life. Guide us to use our days for Your glory. In Christ’s name, Amen.
Journal: When have you celebrated the beauty of time in your life? Are you awake to each moment, living life with awareness of its gifts? Or are you traveling in a fog? How can you bring more joy and awe into your days?
