Holes

“The one who digs a pit will fall into it, and whoever rolls a stone—it will come back on him.”

Proverbs 26:27 HCSB

“He redeems your life from the Pit;
He crowns you with faithful love and compassion.”

Psalm 103:4 HCSB

The hole is back!

For months, our lawn was full of colorful utility flags and a rainbow of painted stripes marking where each underground line was buried. It stayed that way through snow, wind, and heavy rains. The grass grew, and we couldn’t mow for fear that we would mess up the markings.

One day, a group of workers came and dug several holes in our yard. They left a long piece of 2+ inch wide orange tubing sticking up higher than I am tall!

They also left one hole covered by a wooden board spray-painted orange, with the word HOLE in large white letters.

Weeks later, the big equipment showed up. More yard was ripped away, the wires were buried, the heavy machine tracked back and forth, pressing down the dirt. We were allowed to remove the flags, and the hole was finally gone.

Then this week, a new hole appeared!

How often do we feel like we just avoid one hole or problem, a pit of our own making or one that was left for us, and then a new one appears? We aren’t promised to be spared the difficulties in our lives, but we have a heavenly Father who will protect us. He will cover many pits, provide us with detours, and pull us out no matter how many times we fall in!

PRAYER: Dear Lord,
Today we will pray as David did in Psalm 103:1-5 (HCSB). “My soul, praise Yahweh, and all that is within me, praise His holy name. My soul, praise the Lord, and do not forget all His benefits. He forgives all your sin; He heals all your diseases. He redeems your life from the Pit; He crowns you with faithful love and compassion. He satisfies you with goodness; your youth is renewed like the eagle.” Lord, thank You for Your never ending love and redemption!
In Christ’s name, Amen.

Journal: Where are the holes in your life? How has the Lord protected or redeemed you? Are you digging any new pits? Ask the Lord for His help with your current struggles.
