“I give them eternal life, and they will never perish—ever! No one will snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all. No one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand.”
John 10:28-29 HCSB
“For I am persuaded that not even death or life, angels or rulers, things present or things to come, hostile powers, height or depth, or any other created thing will have the power to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord!”
Romans 8:38-39 HCSB
Last week at church, my son had the honor of playing piano with the children’s choir. They were singing the hymn “It Is Well With My Soul”. During the practice, the leader reminded the children how to sing the word “assurance” so it could be clearly heard.
I wondered how to define “assurance” and realized that it is simply a promise. It is something we believe because we trust the One Who has made a pledge, a guarantee, with His Word of Honor.
Jesus was sent here by God to live as an example for us and to die for our salvation. There is nothing that we as believers can do to lose this gift. No one can take us away from Him. We are loved forever and always. And Heaven will be ours for eternity with Him. How valuable this blessing is today! What a wonderful gift that we can hardly contain!
When the children sang for both services, it was clear that they understood this vow. They sang “It Is Well With My Soul” with loud voices full of conviction, as though they believed those words with their whole hearts!
Let’s live each day with our souls at peace because of this blessed assurance!
PRAYER: Dear Lord, thank You for the promise from Jesus: “I assure you: Anyone who hears My word and believes Him who sent Me has eternal life and will not come under judgment but has passed from death to life” (John 5:24 HCSB). Though we will have struggles and may sometimes forget to stay close to You, thank You for the reminder that nothing will keep us from eternity in Heaven with You! In Christ’s name, Amen.
Journal: Spend some time thanking the Lord for His promises today. How will this knowledge encourage your heart?
