Jesus is Eternal

“He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For everything was created by Him, in heaven and on earth, the visible and the invisible…”

Colossians 1:15-16a HCSB

Jesus lived on earth in human form for about 33 years.

When we picture Jesus, we often see Him as the baby in the manger, the boy teaching in the synagogue, or the man leading His disciples while preaching to the multitude and healing the sick.

Jesus was all these; but He is so much more! “He is the image of the invisible God.” He is our Creator and our Redeemer. He existed before time began and will remain forever. This is beyond our human comprehension.

Jesus says, “I and the Father are one” (John 10:30). Jesus died on the cross for our sins and we have been given eternal life in Heaven with Him. “For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the archangel’s voice, and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are still alive will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air and so we will always be with the Lord” (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17). What an amazing and undeserved blessing!

PRAYER: Dear Father, thank You for Your eternal son, Jesus, Who has been and always will be. Thank You for the time He lived on earth in the flesh as our example. Thank You that He died as our Redeemer. And thank You for the promise of His return to bring us home to You. Our minds can’t fully fathom all the ways Jesus is present in our lives, but our hearts are full of the hope He brings. In Christ’s name, Amen.

Journal: Read Colossians 1:15-23. Spend some time reflecting on the person of Jesus. There is no other like Him.
