The Innkeeper

“and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.”

Galatians 2:20 HCSB

“Then she gave birth to her firstborn Son, and she wrapped Him snugly in cloth and laid Him in a feeding trough—because there was no room for them at the lodging place.”

Luke 2:7 HCSB

The innkeeper’s rooms were full that night in Bethlehem. He didn’t turn the soon-to-be parents away, but gave them the only space he had—the stable.

If he had known how special baby Jesus would be, would he have given up his own room?

We are each the innkeeper of our heart. The one who decides when and how far we’ll let Jesus in. As a believer in Christ, will you greet Him at the door? Will you make space for Him in the living room where you entertain your guests, and in the dining room where you show off your china?

Or will you give Him an honored seat next to you as you study the Bible, pay your bills, and care for your children?

Will He be invited into the work of your life and the conversations with your family and friends? Or only in the times of trouble and on Sunday mornings?

Jesus is always available for us and desires to be in the everyday moments as well as the special celebrations.

How far will you invite Him in?

PRAYER: Dear Jesus, Thank You for living Your life as an example for us and for dying on the cross for our sins. You have said, “Listen! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and have dinner with him, and he with Me.” (Revelation 3:20 HCSB) Please help us to hear your voice and to invite you into our hearts and lives. Amen.
