The Many Names of Jesus

“But you,” He asked them again, “who do you say that I am?” Peter answered Him, “You are the Messiah!”

Mark 8:29 HCSB

“Then He said, ‘Watch out that you are not deceived. For many will come in My name, saying, “I am He,” and, “The time is near.” Don’t follow them.’

Luke 21:8 HCSB

Again the high priest questioned Him, “Are You the Messiah, the Son of the Blessed One?” “I am,” said Jesus, “and all of you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of the Power and coming with the clouds of heaven.”

Mark 14:61b-62 HCSB

My friend Penny gave me a beautiful set of handmade ornaments. She cut a tree limb into disks and painted one of Jesus’ names on each. These are treasured and lovingly hung upon our tree.

This made me curious as to just how many ways Jesus in named in the Bible.

According to The Complete Concordance to the Holy Scriptures, first printed in 1737 by Alexander Cruden, there are 198 different names for Jesus.

We can learn so much about Jesus and the Father by taking time to study each one.

The Many Names of Jesus
Can’t convey just Who He is.
All powerful, all knowing.
Magnificent and mighty.
A Boy Who grew to be a Man.

The Savior of our world.
The Everlasting Father
and Almighty King.
Who was in the beginning
and remains until the end.

Though we’ll never comprehend Him fully,
we can learn and grow,
to be a little like His living testimony—
an example for all to follow.

No matter what our future holds,
or the troubles that come today,
There are many names for Jesus,
Who will lovingly guide us on our way.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, thank You for Your Son Who came to earth to teach, heal, love, and save. His names are found throughout the Bible. Help us to continue to seek to know Jesus every day. In Christ’s name, Amen.
