Eternal Life

“This is eternal life: that they may know You, the only true God, and the One You have sent—Jesus Christ.”

John 17:3 HCSB

I’m so thankful to know that I will spend eternity in heaven with the Lord. It’s a promise for all who believe in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. I live as a believer, trying to follow the Lord by the teachings of the Bible.

But when times get tough, it’s easy to long for that eternal life—when we will reside in the blissful joy of heaven along with those we know and love.

The truth is, for believers who know and trust in the sovereignty of God we have already begun living our eternal life—because we know and are connected to God and Jesus Christ. We have the Holy Spirit residing in us as well, helping us to discern right from wrong and guiding our path. We can commune with the Lord at any time through prayer, praise, quiet listening, and active reading of the Bible.

Realizing that I’ve already started living my eternal life has given me the confidence to go out and share His love with others. No matter what happens to us and those we love while on this earth, we will remain connected to God. We don’t have to wait until we finish the race. The Lord is beside us through it all.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, thank You for the gift of eternal life. Jesus said, “I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved and will come in and go out and find pasture…I have come so that they may have life and have it in abundance.” (John 10:9&10b) We hold on to this truth, for “The man who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence indeed is the Lord, is blessed.” (Jeremiah 17:7) In Christ’s name, Amen.

Journal: Review 1 John 5:6-13. Spend some time thanking the Lord for His gift of eternal life.
