Picnic in the Park

“The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky proclaims the work of His hands.”

Psalm 19:1 HCSB

“He said to them, ‘Come away by yourselves to a remote place and rest for a while.’ For many people were coming and going, and they did not even have time to eat.”

Mark 6:31 HCSB

There’s something beautifully peaceful about stopping our travels to enjoy a picnic in the park…

Stretching our legs with a walk in nature.
Fresh air, sunshine, and a breeze through the trees.
Birds singing, creatures scurrying, children giggling.
A place to sit and time to rest.
Delicious food to help us refuel.
Looking at each other instead of outside the car windows.
Catching our breath while we de-stress and refresh.
Slowing down and admiring the beauty of God’s handiwork.

In these moments, we often become more aware of God’s presence as we take these moments to step away from the busyness of life. We’re more able to sense His presence surrounded by His creations.

Whether we’re enjoying food or simply taking a break, we can see the Lord and delight in the unique beauty of all He has made.

Our lives are constantly in motion and our desire to be productive can keep us moving. When we allow ourselves the opportunities to take a break and see something new, we create lasting memories which help us build bonds with one another, and these experiences provide a sense of adventure that makes the journey more enjoyable for all.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, thank You for the gift of rest surrounded by the beauty of Your creation. Help us to slow down and notice the ways You are present in our lives. Teach us to trust You enough to pause, breathe, and receive Your peace. Refresh our spirits as we spend time with You. In Christ’s name, Amen.
