Maturing in Christ

“When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put aside childish things.”

1 Corinthians 13:11 HCSB

But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.

2 Peter 3:18 HCSB

“Did you work at SACC?” I almost missed the question, as I was walking on the trail listening to a podcast with headphones. “Yes, I did!” I responded.

The teenage boy was heading home with his friend after they attended their 10th grade orientation at the high school.

I hadn’t seen him since he was in 4th grade and attending the School-Age Child Care program. He’d been frozen in time in my mind. What a shock to see him so grown up!

We had a great visit. He was especially excited to learn that I’m an author.

This reminded me of how we are always growing and changing, no matter our age. With each life experience there’s an opportunity to learn and become more mature in our faith and knowledge.

We can’t always see the daily growth in our lives. But when we look back, we can see just how far we have grown.

The apostle John stated, “Dear friends, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet been revealed. We know that when He appears, we will be like Him because we will see Him as He is.  And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself just as He is pure.” (1 John 3:2-3)

Though we won’t reach full maturity in Christ in this life, we can continue to grow closer to Him, aim to live more in His likeness, and share what we’ve learned with those around us.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, thank You for loving us at all times. Please help us to mature as we grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Help us to share Your love with those we meet. In Christ’s name, Amen.
