Worthy

“For this reason also, since the day we heard this, we haven’t stopped praying for you. We are asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding, so that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to Him, bearing fruit in every good work and growing in the knowledge of God.”

Colossians 1:9-10 HCSB

Sometimes we value ourselves based only on the people in the room with us or the way we feel at a given time. If we believe that someone is smarter, kinder, or makes fewer mistakes than us, then we’ll often view our worth as much lower.

That’s not how the Lord sees us. He values us as His children. We’re fully known and loved by Him, and exactly as He created us to be. “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath beforehand ordained, that we should walk in them” (Ephesians 2:10 KJ21). Nothing “will have the power to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord!” (Romans 8:39b).

We can continue to improve ourselves, to learn, grow and change. But our true worth comes from the Lord. He is the one who is worthy of praise, honor, and love. And as His children, we’re worthy of the same things. Not because of who we are, but because of Whose we are!

PRAYER: Dear Lord, “Our Lord and God, You are worthy to receive glory and honor and power, because You have created all things, and because of Your will they exist and were created” (Revelation 4:11). Thank You for creating us and calling us Your sons and daughters. We are not worthy on our own, but as Your children, we are valued. Please help us to follow You to complete the works that You have prepared for us. In Christ’s name, Amen.

Journal: Where do you feel unworthy? Look for Bible verses that show how valuable you are to the Lord.
