Times have changed. Our children are grown, the house is quieter, and the extra time can leave us wondering how to fill the space.
It isn’t that we’re no longer needed. Perhaps this season gives us the freedom to prayerfully choose where God is calling us to invest our time, energy, and experience.
We’re older now, and hopefully wiser. Yet discerning our purpose in this new season can feel overwhelming. We may grieve what has changed, while wondering how to reconnect, move forward, and discover what God has planned for us next.
But God has not changed. Hebrews 13:8 reminds us that, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.”
Though times of trouble and uncertainty will come, God’s faithfulness will remain. He continues to work in and through us, even when we can’t see what He is doing. “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works” (Ephesians 2:10).
Growing older can be a blessing! Every experience, joy, hardship, and lesson has helped to create who we are today. Nothing’s wasted in God’s hands. Our years have given us wisdom, compassion, and stories that we can use to encourage others.
“Those who are planted in the house of the Lord…still bear fruit in old age” (Psalm 92:13–14). There’s still purpose in our lives. And there’s still fruit for us to bear.
Let’s step into each new season with faith. We may not see what’s ahead, but we can be confident that the Lord will lead us. “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen” (Hebrews 11:1).
PRAYER: Dear Lord, thank You for the lives You have given us and for every season You bring us through. Help us embrace this new chapter with open hearts and willing spirits. Remind us that our purpose does not end when our circumstances change. Lead us, use us, and help us rejoice in the hope we have through our faith in You. In Christ’s name, Amen.
