Shine Your Light

“The true light, who gives light to everyone, was coming into the world.”

John 1:9

“In the same way, let your light shine before men, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.”

Matthew 5:16

Each Christmas for the preschool music recital, my 3 year olds would sing This Little Light of Mine. The refrain was the most popular part. Standing on the stage holding their paper candles in front of them, they would sing and shout out the words…”Hide it under a bushel? NO! I’m gonna let it shine!”

If only we could remain as confident and determined as those 3 year olds! They “won’t let Satan blow it out!” And they’ll “let it shine till Jesus comes.”

Our light comes from knowing that Jesus is our Savior and the Giver of eternal life. We have all been given unique gifts to share with the world. We are asked to use our gifts to share the gospel truths with others so they may also live with peace, hope, and love.

At times, life overwhelms us, and we start to lose the brightness of the light. It can become just a flicker…barely enough to light our own path, with little left to share with others. We need to keep refueling ourselves through time spent in the Word, in prayer, and in communion with other believers. This will add fuel to our fires so we’ll have more to share with others.

“Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine!”

Prayer:

Dear Lord,
Thank You for sending Jesus to be the light of our world. Please help me to share the light I have been given with those around me.
In Christ’s name, Amen
