The Long Winter

“As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, and day and night will not cease.”

Genesis 8:22 HCSB

“The Lord is near the brokenhearted; He saves those crushed in spirit.”

Psalm 34:18 HCSB

Winters can be cold and full of snow. At times, we experience personal winters where we feel alone in a difficult time in our lives.

When we’re in a season of loss, confusion, grief, or change, everything slows down. Growth seems to halt, and we go through the motions of life, just trying to keep up.

In those times, we need to reach out to others, and especially to the Lord. His guidance in the quiet moments, His comfort in the scary moments, and His hope in the darkness, when the world seems so cold, is what we need to rely upon.

Don’t give up, no matter how bleak it seems. There is hope. With the Lord’s help, you can get through these difficulties too! You are loved! You are needed! You are a one-of-a-kind creation made in the image of God.

Your winter will pass and spring will come again. Sunshine, warmth, flowers. Joy, peace, rest.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, thank You for staying close in the difficult winters of life. The struggles are long and lonely. Lord we need you all the time, but especially now. In Christ’s name, Amen.

Journal: When have you been in a winter season of life? How did the Lord help you through? If your season is difficult now, reach out to God and those around you. Who could use some encouragement from you?
