Pray Without Ceasing

“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 ESV

Here’s part of a prayer I found recently in an old journal. I wrote this just over 17 years ago…

Dear Lord, today Jacob starts first grade! He’ll be away from me and Josh all day. Thank You for the rain which so fits my mood and for the grass and plants. Thank You that Your Word says, ‘There is nothing new under the sun.” Many mothers have gone through this before me. Thank You that Jacob was sad yesterday because he was going to miss spending time with his brother. Thank You that he was happy today as he was heading to school.
Lord, please give Jacob a great day and help him to make friends and be happy. Please help him to adjust and help me to give him the support he needs to do the best he can. Lord, thank You for all of the years at home with him and all of the one-on-one time we had. Thank You for how well-adjusted and loving he has become. Please help us to go forward and share Your lovingkindness with others. Amen.

I am so thankful for the Lord’s love and blessings on that day and every day since. The prayers have changed over the years as we’ve continued to grow. God is always available, waiting to hear from us–even though He already knows what’s in our hearts and minds.

Let’s pray throughout our days, sharing all of our praises and concerns. There is such a peace that comes from a close connection with Him.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, thank You for giving us direct access to You at all times through prayer. Help us to reach out often with grateful hearts to share our cares and hopes with You. In Christ’s name, Amen.

Journal: Write out your prayer to the Lord today.
