“’No one can be a slave of two masters, since either he will hate one and love the other, or be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot be slaves of God and of money.'”
Matthew 6:24 HCSB
“Whatever you do, do it enthusiastically, as something done for the Lord and not for men, knowing that you will receive the reward of an inheritance from the Lord. You serve the Lord Christ.”
Colossians 3:23-24 HCSB
Our lives are given to us by God. We are asked to serve not out of duty or responsibility, but out of the love we have for Him because He first loved us. Ephesians 2:10 HCSB states, “For we are His creation, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared ahead of time so that we should walk in them.”
When we do the things we are given with a heart for Him, we are not seeking fame or fortune. Instead, we are sharing God’s grace as we give a little of what He has given us.
When our hearts are connected to the Lord through prayer and Bible study, with a focus on seeking His plans for our days, we will find possibilities to serve.
At times, we’re able to participate in larger service projects or mission trips, giving all of our energy alongside others working toward a common goal. These are amazing opportunities to see how the body of Christ can come together!
But just as important are those days when we serve Him through the small daily acts of life…
Sharing a smile.
Holding a door open.
Offering a quick text or call to say we care.
Spending time with a child.
Preparing a meal.
Leading a Bible study.
Caring for an aging parent.
Visiting a neighbor.
Changing our plans to help out another.
Offering 15 minutes of time to help however needed.
Praying for those with specific requests.
Completing each job with integrity and our best efforts.
Everything we do is for the Lord when we have a heart of service. Let us use these opportunities to praise the Lord and bless those around us.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, thank You for this life and for how You have created it uniquely for me. Open my eyes to see how I can best serve You. Keep my actions focused on honoring You.
In Christ’s name, Amen.
