“And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, ‘This is the way, walk in it,’ when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left.”
Isaiah 30:21 ESV
“My sheep hear My voice, I know them, and they follow Me.”
John10:27 HCSB
I love the lightbulb moments sent by the Lord!
In college, I had the opportunity to choose between student teaching for one quarter or remaining in a classroom for a full school year. I would either graduate sooner or have more experience with a master teacher before heading out on my own.
This was a big decision for me, and as usual, I had been sharing it with the Lord in prayer and mulling it around in my mind. One evening, as I was cleaning out the microwave after closing at my fast food job, I was thinking through both scenarios, quietly waiting for “the right” answer to pop into my head. Then it was as if a bright light switched on before my eyes and the answer was clear! I was to stay for the full year! I knew it was clearly the plan from God!
In our lives, we will encounter situations that require repeated prayer and deep focus for discernment. God is our light and He illuminates the path for us. It may be just the next step we are to take in faith. But He promises to be with us, to guide and direct our lives.
We know that “all things work together for the good of those who love God: those who are called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:28). God promises that He has a direction for our lives. He reveals the next step of the plan in His timing, sometimes in a lightbulb moment and other times gradually and after lots of waiting, but always at just the right time. That’s why we never stop praying for Him to direct us forward on the narrow path.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, thank You for sending us the quiet answers and the big bright lightbulb moments! Lord, as we navigate each day, we need Your strength and direction. We long for more of Your light in our lives. In Christ’s name, Amen.
Journal: Where has God given you a lightbulb moment? In what area are you looking for His guidance today?
God usually gives me, “just enough light for the step I’m on”, but I take great comfort in James 1:5 which promises He’ll give us wisdom when we ask for it. He is always faithful to keep that promise!
