God’s Timing

“The Lord is good to those who wait for Him, to the person who seeks Him. It is good to wait quietly for deliverance from the Lord.”

Lamentations 3:25-26 HCSB

“The course of my life is in Your power; deliver me from the power of my enemies and from my persecutors.”

Psalm 31:15 HCSB

We have goals…Yet we may not get what we want when we want. Maybe we’ve hoped and prepared for years and believe we are ready, but the job, promotion, breakthrough, or health improvement hasn’t come.

God’s timing is different from ours. He sees all, from the beginning to the end. He’s known us since before we were born. He knows when and what is best for us in all situations. As David states in Psalm 139:6 HCSB, “Your eyes saw me when I was formless; all my days were written in Your book and planned before a single one of them began.” This is difficult for us to comprehend, as we live in a finite time when what happens one moment seems to lead to the next.

The Lord can seem to make time expand or shrink. He can make a moment seem to last forever, while years of waiting can almost disappear when the breakthrough finally comes. Things we’ve long forgotten about can become pivotal now.

Trust Him. Love Him. Know Him. Lean on Him. The time will come in God’s perfect timing. It will fall into place. It may happen in a different way than we had hoped. But God is guiding us daily for what is to come. As Peter says, “Dear friends, don’t let this one thing escape you: With the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years like one day. The Lord does not delay His promise, as some understand delay, but is patient with you, not wanting any to perish but all to come to repentance” (2 Peter 3:8–9).

PRAYER: Dear Lord, thank You for Your ever present help in all situations. You love us and give us what is best in your perfect timing. Please help us to trust You in the waiting. In Christ’s name, Amen.

Journal: What are you waiting for? Ask the Lord for guidance and strength.
