Creating a Vision

“Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.”

Proverbs 29:18 KJV

“The Lord answered me: Write down this vision; clearly inscribe it on tablets so one may easily read it.”

Habakkuk 2:2 HCSB

Having clear and meaningful direction for our lives helps us to succeed and find fulfillment. Creating a vision for our future gives us a sense of purpose, which will motivate us to strive toward the goals God has given us.

When determining your direction, spend some quiet time with the Lord. Ask Him for guidance. Reflect on your values and passions. What skills and talents has the Lord given you to share?

Set specific, achievable goals aligned with God’s Word and your gifts. Develop a plan with actionable steps that you can do over time.

Stay flexible, continue seeking the Lord’s guidance, and adapting as necessary.

The Bible encourages having a vision for your life, emphasizing the importance of seeking God’s guidance and aligning your vision with His will. Proverbs 29:18 says, “Where there is no vision, the people perish.”

The Lord says to the prophet, “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” (Jeremiah 29:11 KJV) We are all given unique gifts and responsibilities. By praying and seeking God’s guidance, we can create a vision for our lives that aligns with His plans and purposes for us.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, thank You for creating us with unique gifts and purposes. Help us to connect our vision with Yours so that we may use our lives to affect Your Kingdom. In Christ’s name, Amen.

Journal: Read Romans chapter 12 for ideas on using your spiritual gifts and aligning your purpose with His will. Spend time creating or updating your current vision plan.
